Hawaii Release | Pepperdine Release | Coaching Bio (UH) (Pepp)

Associate coach Scott Wong has accepted a head coach position at Pepperdine University. Wong has been with the Wahine program for five seasons and has a winning coaching record at the university.

The head coach position for the Waves became available after first season coach Troy Tanner left for personal family reasons. Wong will become the fifth women's coach in program history.

Before coming home to Hawaii, he was the assistant coach for the men's team under Marv Dunphy from 2005-09. As a college student he was a three-time All-American for the Waves and moved on to play beach volleyball in the AVP.

The Punahou school product was also the head coach of the sand volleyball program at UH. Under his reign, he was the first coach for the program and has a 30-17 record in three seasons. In his last season for the SandBows, they reached the AVCA National Championships for the first time while finishing ranked third.

Hawaii head coach Dave Shoji will make an immediate search for the associate coach position.

Jade Vorster Not Returning

| Hawaii Release | Star Advertiser Article | KaLeo Article |

Soon to be redshirt junior middle blocker Jade Vorster (Orlando, FL) has decided to transfer to Liberty University after she graduates this spring from UH. Hawaii head coach Dave Shoji has granted her a release allowing her to play for the 2014-15 season in Lynchburg, Virginia.

The purpose of her transfer is pursue a graduate degree in public health and to be closer with her family. Her sister Sirena is a 6'2" middle blocker who signed with Liberty and will be a freshman in the fall.

Vorster entered the Rainbow Wahine program in the spring of 2011 as she graduated early from Timber Creek HS. She redshirted the 2011 season to improve as she sat behind four other middle blockers on the team. In the 2012 season, she was named First Team All-Big West and Big West All-Freshman Team. That year she led the team in hitting percentage (.388) and blocks (116). For here sophomore year she earned Big West honorable mention and lead the team again in hitting percentage (.377) and blocks (105). In two seasons, she started all 60 matches at middle blocker.

I wish Jade good luck in her future as a Flame and will be rooting for you from the islands! Mahalo for your contribution to the Rainbow Wahine team!
