Associate coach Scott Wong has accepted a head coach position at Pepperdine University. Wong has been with the Wahine program for five seasons and has a winning coaching record at the university.
The head coach position for the Waves became available after first season coach Troy Tanner left for personal family reasons. Wong will become the fifth women's coach in program history.
Before coming home to Hawaii, he was the assistant coach for the men's team under Marv Dunphy from 2005-09. As a college student he was a three-time All-American for the Waves and moved on to play beach volleyball in the AVP.
The Punahou school product was also the head coach of the sand volleyball program at UH. Under his reign, he was the first coach for the program and has a 30-17 record in three seasons. In his last season for the SandBows, they reached the AVCA National Championships for the first time while finishing ranked third.
Hawaii head coach Dave Shoji will make an immediate search for the associate coach position.
